Tell me about.

Our councillor brags that they've never had to throw any one off but we have a 2 year waiting list.

Give me a big stick and I'll .........................

This chap has a big allotment why keener folks have to settle for 1/8th of a plot.

Tisn't that long ago that I was one of these people... (though not as bad as those photos). We are very busy people anyway, but then we both had time off work with back injuries and didn't physically manage anything in the gardening department. I thought it best to half the plot but OH didn't.

We have done quite a bit over the past 3 months...

We still have some empty spaces but we have plans for these... the big manure patch will be filled with potatoes in spring. The other big empty spot is ready for a load of brassicas. That spot will then become an asparagus bed next spring.

We hope we have done enough not to get a naughty letter next inspection.

I've always said that if some one has a physical condition and can not use the plot for a time that they should be allowed an apprentice from the waiting list to help them on the plot until they get better or the noob gets their own plot.

If the plot is given up then the noob should get first choice.

The Marestail on our plot has been worse this year than ever before.  Luckily everybody else on the site has suffered as well.  We are putting it down to the growing conditions over the last two years.  It's never grown a foot tall before!

Apparently, mares tail does rather like the damp conditions ...
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

We have some right humdingers on our site, my son's just took another on and the top half is a mass of plum tree suckers all about 20' tall
I went down with a chainsaw last week and felled about 85% of them but lord knows how they intend to grow on the mass of roots.

On the positive side we have some empty plots with Syston plums on which are getting rarer and an old apple tree can't remember the name of it blooming something or other.

They look nightmares but probably half of us have encountered something similar on our new plots.  I know I did on some of it.  If you are desperate and offered a plot then you will say yes, I know that I didn't care too much what mine was like (it is one of the smallest plots on the site) as long as I had something to start with.  Have put my name straight back on the waiting list hoping to extend out to a reasonable sized plot when one becomes available next to me.  Wouldn't care how overgrown it was as I know that I can do something with it.

That's a wonderful idea - both get something positive out of it.

I am waiting for an allotment - will one be handed to me in this state?! :o

I got my plot 4 weeks ago.
It was left for 12 months or so before I got it, 4 foot high with weeds (couch, marestail, creeping thisel and Brambles). At least 6inchs of top soil had removed by the previous tenant as attempt to remove weed roots. He had built 3 raised beds which took the rest of the top soil from the rest of the site.
I have weed killed and strimmed site now. Got rid of raised beds and have gone through half the plot with a fork removing as much roots as possible.
I think if you do a little work on it everyday it is not so daunting
I will put some pics on this site to show you later
