Title: getting started
Post by: Mitchy on August 27, 2008, 20:01
as i said in an earlier post, my allotment won't come up till next year at the earliest.

We are thinking of buying this to start us ofm as well as usual old coke and milk plastic containers.

What do you think I could grow in this ... would it be suitable for autumn onions? or could I only grow seeds in this, and not actually take anything from start to finish in it?

Or is there a better system to use? I don't want to spend too much on a greenhouse/cloche idea as it will either only last this year, or will need moving on to the allotment next anyway.

Many thanks for your help

For overwintering onions you'd be better off with 10 - 12 " pots IMHO and put 3/4 bulbs in each and feed well in the spring, they are very hardy and will sit and do very little over the coldest months.
I think it's probably designed as a seed starter/ half hardy plant shelter in the spring.
