Home made (hardly) DIY fire pit

Getting shot of your old washing machine? Then do what I did, big hammer and a screwdriver, mash it and just take the drum out with the drive spindle, and there you have it, a fire pit, made from rust free stainless steel and aluminium, will last you years, I might take a pic later, if you want one? no skill involved, unless breaking something is a skill??

We have an ailing fire basket and will be in need of a replacement.

We enjoy a good fire at the soltices. ;) Especially at the winter solstice :D

Hi Mrs Ball, because you was admiring my big plot, I immediately ran out to take some pics of my drum for you, hope you like

On some, depending on make and model, you can make them spin around and around, there made for it, what with the holes in the side, I use a little kinderling and split logs, you may be able to use coal? never tried it with coal though

I love a big plot, Dopey ;)

Thank you for the piccys. What a brilliant idea :)

Not sure that I would want to spin a fire though. Although it would add an extra dimension to the Sawain Festival of jumping the fire

We must have a look at our recycle centre. There are often washing machines there.

I will offer the guys at the centre the enducement (not a bribe) enducement, of my cream scones and home made jam.

Usually works.  Got enough paving bricks to edge all my borders a while back.

Thanks again for the piccies and the great idea. Enjoy your hols. :D

Don't forget, the glass front 'window' makes a great trifle / fruit / mixing bowl. :nowink:

Cheers,    Tony.

Blimey, that would make one hell of a trifle

The one food that I cannot resist is a properly made trifle, so I don't make it often.
Good idea for a punch bowl, tho. :D

Don't you find people looking at you a bit funny when you go around collecting these strange items

The times I have people looking at me as if I am barking mad

But I think we are resourceful and interesting ;)

We need a new fire pit and as luck would have it, the washing machine died last sunday (it didn't feel luck at the time though) I see a project coming on ;)

What a fantastic idea Dopey! Wish I'd thought of that when mine died this year.  :)

sorry to resurrect a (slightly) aged post but our washer has been making increasingly worse noises recently and tonight I thought it was going to blow

Decision made to replace it (probably just as expensive to repair) and my 1st thought was... hmm, I'm sure someone mentioned making a fire pit out of an old washer...  :nowink:

Great idea and has certainly sweetened the blow, thanks!!   :D

A lovely idea..... but, down in here in the hard-water zone, washing machine drums are often caked in calcium but I guess the heat of a fire would dry it and cause it to crack away.

Worth considering I think.
