Chooks gone silly!
« on: August 28, 2009, 12:47 »
Has anyone else's girls gone mad today?  They are running about the garden like loons.  Is it because it's windy?  Do they get "the wind in their feathers" and go a bit silly?

All animals react to the wind, especially prey animals.  They can't hear if there are wolves in the bushes

Funny you should say that Amanda because this morning they kept making funny noises and all staring at the same spot several times as though something was hididng in the bushes.
They didn't like to be away from me as if they was spooked,i put it don't to the wind.
It's very windy here

And there's me worried about foxes, where can I get wolf proof wire from? :)

If there were wolves in the bushes, I think I'd be in the run with the chooks!

Never thought of it like that though Auntie, but it makes perfect sense.

mine wont come out of the run, even though the door is open, they are all hiding under the coop, so i have shut the door to make them more secure.
they really hate the wind, especially as we have threes and high bushes at the bottom that the wind goes right through

My hybrids keep squating perhaps they think the gusts of wind are huge cockerals looming over them

Oh, I'm so glad that everyone else's have gone a bit bonkers too!

It also probably doesn't help that the wind has blown over my daughter's paddling pool that wasn't full of water but plastic balls - took me ages to collect them all, while the girls looked on in disgust!  :)

Well said Auntie..apart from fretting about my new arrivals on Sunday, and pretending to do the ironing while reading these posts, My 3 are going CRAZY. (lads that is). I'm a primary teacher and can testify directly to the effects of the wind on children. Its a simple equation.

Wind+children=chaos.

As for wolves in bushes, I haven't seen any recently in Rugby, but next doors cats are going to pose a serious problem to my girls.

Wind to decrease by tonight, but still be breezy tomorrow.  !!!
3 boys..1 husband...4 hens coming on Sunday!!!
