When you make your Christmas puddings and all the family have a stir and make a wish - a very very old custom and one that I have never taken part in as my mum always bought Christmas puddings. So today I am making my first Christmas pudding albeit a low fat version, just got to go out and buy some brandy  :D

That sounds like a lovely idea!  At the ripe age of 40 I am finally having my first Christmas at home so I might make a pudding, I have just bought Delia's Happy Christmas book so I shall have a look in there for the recipe.

The name is taken from the Collect (prayer) for the last Sunday before Advent, which goes  "Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people;" (Book of Common Prayer) and was said to remind housewives of the need to make their Christmas puddings and cakes, so they had time to mature.  As if we needed reminding of the beast that is Christmas!!  :D

Also  Advent was a period of fasting, so if they didn't get them done this week, there was a bit of problem!  Imagine getting the rich goodies together when on a gruel and water diet ... :(

I made mine last night  :D

I have done one every year for years.  It's the only Christmas pudding I like and we put a sixpence in it.

I get my 2 boys and OH to have a stir and make a wish. (and I do)

It's steaming on the hob today, I have to set the timer to remind me to top the water up from time to time.

Most years I take all the ingredients to church and we pass it round and all have a stir and then the mixture goes into my puds for sale. Do you think I could get extra for them if I had them blessed

I've made nearl 100 puds so far this year, going to make my glutenfree ones tomorrow.
