My wife and I experimented with barrier methods some years back but it didn't stop the pests from appearing. Mind you, they're all grown up now and have pests of their own.    :D

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

None
Well, glyphosate on a few of the greener pests, but I've never had a problem with insects, except those saw fly that annihiliate gooseberries in minutes, but something else came along and ate them.

But then, I'm in my garden rather than on an allotment, and I dont grow intensivly.
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended

I use a mistle thrush - best cure for snails I know. Sparrows and blackbirds make off with a lot of things I'd rather not have (though the black birds are a bit apt to take rather a lot of worms). Saw a ladybird this year so am hopeful that I have another helping hand.

Oops - they aren't pesticides. But they do part of the job. Along with the sparrowhawk that has kept the pigeon population down.
