I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

If buying in bulk, it's very, very hard to beat Moles Seeds prices.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I agree that choosing your seeds is a very pleasurable thing to do on New Year's Eve. Nice.

I don't know about you but I try to make my gardening experience a bit novel every year so buying cheap is not a priority. I've recently started to get into heritage varieties, particularly ones that are getting scarce so I tend to go to sites like Real Seeds and Elfskin's Edibles. They don't have fancy packages or outlandish prices but do some unusual varieties that will make your gardening a bit more interesting.

Do you have an allotment association that you can order through?  Many of the associations in York do have discounts e.g. we order through Mr Fothergills at a discount of 30% for most seeds and have loose seeds for peas and beans.

I believe Mr Browns used to be good for cheap plain packets too, but DD always recommends Moles seeds as a good price.  You might also want to check out Kings seeds too - can't remember what their prices are like.

Failing that, Wilkinsons always have a range of common seeds at very cheap prices - but you won't get them tonight!!

It depends in part on how unusual you want your varieties to be?

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I agree, choosing seeds around New Year is something to look forward to. In fact, boring it may be, but the New Year's party and celebrations are far over-shadowed by the evening spent ordering the new years seeds!

The problem I always face is postage costs versus buying the exact varieties I want. I split it two ways, the day to day seeds and those that are a bit different. I have two firm favourites which between them satisfy 95% of my needs and thus keep postage costs down.

For day to day stuff I prefer Nicky's Nursery. Their prices are excellent and over five years or so, germination rates have never let me down. For something different I go for Victoriana Nurseries, not only do they specialise in heritages seeds and plants but their prices for every day seeds are hard to beat. I appreciate their ethics of sticking to tried and tested varieties.

Whatever your seed sources are I wish you all a very happy new year and great gardening in 2014.

Midland seeds' service was bad for me.

I waited 2 weeks, no seeds arrived.  I e-mailed to ask if my seeds have been sent out, the guy said yes they been sent out and will send them again please wait up to 7 days (the company is only located about 15miles from me, but wait 7 days? lol)

I waited 7 days, still no seeds, he said will send them again please wait another 7 days.  Those 7 days passed and still no seeds, so I asked for a refund, he said ok i will refund.

I asked 3 more times for a refund and never got one and they stopped replying to emails.  I would avoid them totally.

I've often used DT Brown, free postage, labels and a packet of trial seeds. Always delivered, excellent germination and quite a wide selection. I think they are owned by one of the other companies, not sure which.
