duck food ???
« on: October 20, 2011, 16:02 »
hiya i have a range of chickens on growers and layers but i also have 3 east indian bantam ducks, i read that it was ok for them to share the same food as the chickens but i have noticed the feathers on the ducks are starting to curl up and they droop as aspose to being tucked in, i read that these can be signs of too much protien in there diet, is there a brand that i can feed them all on thats not medicated and not too high in protien ?????? but thats good for them all.

layers pellets isn't medicated and if you buy organic growers this isn't medicated either
Staffies are softer than you think.

It's best to keep them off the growers as well as that has a higher protein level than ordinary layers pellets.

It shouldn't do too much harm, it's only when they are very little can layers pellets cause problems with chicks because of the higher calcium level. After all, if they had been raised by a broody and she brought them out into the run, chances are they would eat layers the same as she would. Mix layers/growers together until the chicks have used it all up then swap to layers. As for the ducks I think it is a higher grain element they need - Happy Chicks has some info on it.

we mix two parts layers and one part mixed corn for our campbells and aylesburys, seems to suit them fine.
