Title: Anyone trying sweet corn in their greenhouse/polytunnel?
Post by: Goosegirl on July 10, 2015, 12:35
This is the fourth year of doing it and they are almost twice the height of the ones outside, plus are forming tassels. Anyone else trying it and how are they doing?

Hi Goosegirl, although I'm not growing sweet corn this year, I have done so in the past and undoubtedly I'll do so again. I haven't tried it in the tunnels yet in case it grows right through the cover! Even in the greenhouse, the growth is prolific and it bends over at the top. It is definitely one of the crops that is most improved by growing under cover. Good luck with yours.

I've gone back to growing Swift and Lark this year as last year's variety nearly grew out of the windows - just wish it had stated how tall they grew on the packet! Also, I must remember next year to check how I plant them because their leaves grow sideways and most of mine are now projecting over the bed.

Well - here are mine to date. Tassels producing lots of pollen and am tapping the stalks with a cane every day to ensure the cobs get fully pollinated.

I'm going to have a look at my GH ones shortly, and the ones outside now have tassels which, with it not being particularly windy at the moment, should hopefully pollinate them nicely.
