I've built a sheltered area for the food for my girls and have it suspended from the floor to stop them knocking it over or pooping in it. It's suspended at about vent height (base of the tails is a good rule of thumb) so they don't have to stretch to high for it.

Me too, I've also bent over a wire coathanger so that the two 'arms' lock together at the ends, making a clip to hang greens on.  Stops them pooping on their veg, but they still pull some on to the floor.  I have a triangle shape litter tray in the corner, the type used for rabbit runs, with shell and grit in, they very rarely knock this over, but do occassionally manage to poop in it!

Well.... thanks for all your help it's been great!

we picked up our ladies yesterday afternoon and i love them!

Last night they all slept on the floor not the roosts although i tried to put them on the roosts.... all apart from one... mrs Johnston.  I'm a bit worried about her actually... her pooh is very runny and a different colour to the others.  This morning It appears streaked with stingy bits, not sure if it might be a worm or blood? she is the biggest of the chickens and the pooh seems almost like it's got egg yoke mixed in.... none of them are quite ready to lay but i wondered if it could just be her getting ready to lay or if i should take her back to the farm?

Any ideas?
