The hunger gap
« on: February 27, 2022, 10:20 »
So here we are from the plots perspective in the hunger gap
The last of the produce from last year is all gone but this is the period that I find the most important, the preparation period.
All beds except for the carrot bed has been very well manured, rotovated twice, once before manure once after to turn it all in
Edges tidied up only 2 more areas left to do the flower bed and the fruit cage

Can’t wait to get the earlies in around March 17th

Yup, it's around now that the fingers really start to itch, don't they!

I've Mantised all the debris from last year, except the runner bean stems, which I hope to chop up with a rotary mower, and everythng is pruned except the apples as I'm not sure how to do them yet, so thanks for reminding me!

I've already got toms a couple of inches high in a frost-free GH, and some more germinating for chums, and the spuds are chitting nicely, so as your name says, 'Off we go' again!

Yes the earlies have been chitting for a few weeks ready for March 17th
We put the mains on a tray yesterday to start them off chitting,
This weekend whilst it’s been a busy one has been a productive one

Turned a couple of beds over at the plot yesterday and then planted the tomato seeds in the kitchen when I got home.  Got the seed potatoes and onion sets at the garden centre so just waiting for a bit of heat and a some dry weather and it'll be full steam ahead.  Love getting it all going.
