Teeny tiny narcissus.
« on: August 17, 2021, 19:28 »
I dug up a group of narcissii? after dying down and leaves turning yellow after finally having one flower show what they were.  I can only presume they never flowered due to congestion, I 've had them drying and sorted/cleaned by my beloved and now to the question.

Just how small can a bulb be and still be viable, some are smaller than peas?  Do I plant them in a seed bed and transplant those that show life?

Cheers,  Tony. ::)

They will need  to grow on until they are big enough to flower so I would find a spot that you can plant them & leave them be, if you get any flowers mark which plantlet & move for the next season.

We saved all out Tete-a-Tete this year, and are thnking of planting them out in pots - as we bought them, and see if they work next year. Worth a try for yours?

If that happens, and they do well, we'll find them a permanant spot, but they are such lovely plants, we'll still pop into High Banks Nursery and buy a few more next spring...

I agree with what has been said.  I grow mine in a long plastic window box.  I bring them out into view when ready to flower and then pop them around a corner to do their thing when they finish.  They have been in the same old soil for years.  So perhaps I will tip it all out soon and see whats what, and pop them back in along with some new friends and some new soil.  They'll like that.   :)  Mrs Bouquet

Are a look at Minnow, they have the cutest little flowers & there’s another that’s name is escaping me at the moment I’ve used them in the villages hanging baskets in the last few years , but not this time tge parish council has outsourced them. Sob, sob.

My experience is that any narcissus bulb that is firm has the potential to grow and bloom, given enough time.  If you were planning to not use the small ones anyway, why not grow them in a separate bed or container, see if they grow?
