new allotment need advice please
« on: March 14, 2021, 14:10 »
just taken possesion of an allotment, the caretaker said I would have to buy the shed that is on the plot
from the last tennent but no mention of this in the aggrement from the council. I think he is trying to pull a fast one or is this common practice?
Now to grow the chips

Hi there, welcome to the forum :)
As a site rep, our rules say that, If the last tenant wants the shed he/she has to remove it - if not removed, you don't have to buy it, it just gets left on the plot, complete with anything left inside..
I'd call his bluff and say you don't want it and see what he says, but that may mean he sells it to somebody else. (but they aren't that easy to move  :nowink: )
On the other hand if he does move it off the plot - could you easily/cheaply replace it, or do you think it may be worth a small token payment just to keep it there? Difficult decision that one.

To add to mums answer, it might also be worth it in the long run so you ‘fit in’ !! I’ve heard some horror stories on hear where if you’re face doesn’t fit... wrong I know. You can also maybe check with the council if this is the usual procedure?

Gave up an allotment because my face didn't fit, was made to feel very, very uncomfortable.  Share my son's allotment on a site full of complete nutters and could not be happier.

I'd be wanting to give the money to the tenant who left the shed face to face mind.

Our rules are exactly the same as Mumofstig's - either take it with you when you leave the plot, or leave it on the plot for free for the next tenant.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

If it's in good condition and you don't think you're being taken advantage of, take it, but not under compulsion.

I don't suffer from bullies, but there's one or two know it alls who are a pain. I've had to tell them where to go when I couldn't take any more. And don't talk about racism.

Hi Yorkie, that is pretty much what some of the other plot holders have been saying to me.

Hi Longshanks, It needs reroofing the felt was not done propperly and missing guttering has made one corner waterlogged so poss new flooring. I have since been told the last tenant inherited it anyway so I thing someone is on the old violin  ;)

I don't take any truck from bullies either. As for racism my reaction is always ..... if you cut me do I not bleed?  if you tickle me do I not giggle?  if you poison me will I not Die?
