Had to look up 'calzone', and now Mrs Growster has placed an order for a toasted cheese and onion sandwich tonight!

Bet she changes her mind after the hundredweight of Coronation chicken we're having for lunch - with sauteed pots and onions...

Both good ideas. I was being lazy and trying to avoid making short crust pastry
Use the puff pasty - just don't make the topping too wet  ;) I used to use it for ML as her teeth weren't up to chewing pizza bases.

Treating the good lady and myself to a slap up surf and turf tonight, spicy wedges and giant mushrooms topped with cheese at the side.

I’ve got a cheese and onion bread mix, so now wondering about calzone
  :)

Oh, you are posh, like Growster I had to look it up     Now I shall wonder what you will have .   I'd have had crusty bread and Salami and the Brie.    Mrs B

I use pizza base mix to make calzone, never used bread mix before but suppose they are basically the same thing.  We've got the rest of the turkey and mushroom  pie to finish up with left over veg from the last few days to make into bubble and squeak.

Now I shall wonder what you will have .

I went with the puff pastry pretend pizza and OH literally demolished it, so that was a hit  :)

Calzone is just a folded pizza, but somehow different.  Bread mix is definitely not authentic, but quick.  I just sub a slug of olive oil for some of the water.  Think Italian version of a pasty Mrs B.  It’s a great way to use up leftovers and also good with just a pizza sauce and cheese inside.  They reheat a lot better than leftover pizza so I make a few and freeze some  :)

When l were a lad we used to have a very similar creation , but it was always called Stromboli, which l think is more usually rolled and not folded ( we had ours either way ) . Quite the talking point in the playground  ! . But l think true Calzone  is made without tomato paste or sauce.

FUN FACT :  The word  CALZONE   is Italian for “Pants” or “Underpants” .

As the folded dough resembles in some way the article of wear . :)

It has been decreed by him who’s never obeyed that we’re having lamb chops tonight  so bound to be mash & onion gravy, might be a cheeky Yorkshire pud thrown in as there are some in the freezer, also carrots, peas ( we always have these, I’m sure you’ve noticed lol !)  & broccoli. They’ll be gooseberry & mint jelly too & since it’s New Year’s Eve I might succumb to a glass of red or even sparkly stuff.
Happy New Year everyone

The rest of the cottage pie. I found some of the diced veggies I normally use in fried rice in the bottom of the freezer so at least there's something green too.  I was sidetracked by some spreadsheets yesterday and didn't get around to making a crumble will try again later.

Pork steak in barbecue sauce with tenderstem broccoli and peas.
There's a drop or 2 of pink fizz to finish up, later on, as well  :D
