We are trying to renovate our daughters overgrown garden. I know that normally you would cut back buddleia in early spring but would it do any harm to cut it back now? It is very tall. If I prune it now will they get ant flowers this year. It's a funny year with everything so late, isn't it?
I am not allowed to kill it as my son in law likes it

It should be showing new growth already so if you cut back to those then you should still get flowers this year.

I do prune mine early in Spring (late April this year) or late autumn and I cut it back to about 6inches off the ground.

It is a plant that is difficult to kill...


...but you never know!

I have 2x 20 foot  buddleia overhanging from a neighbours, make more seedlings than I care to think of.

I don't get seedings from my buddleia 

Mine is the bog-standard purple one (inherited when I bought the house).
I wonder what species/genus hangs over your garden Stree?
