Hullo Fellow Gardeners.
I and another allotment gardener planted some winter cauliflowers last August or September (my sister told me she used to grow them in the winter to avoid pests) and they have been growing quite well. Just after the snow I noticed the tops had been ravaged by hungry birds (within the space of a couple of days).
I covered them with netting, fleece and the fine-mesh netting used to keep out pests. They are now growing again.
My questions are how long will it take for them to be ready and should I keep them covered up to avoid pests?

I'd keep them covered until ready to harvest which will depend on your local weather.

Thanks for your answer. Another question. Some of them are in the wrong place. Would resist being moved?

They'll be too established now and won't like being moved.

are these cauliflower what my dad called headers?
I have grew these with very good results years ago but for some reason or another I just can't seem to get them to produce I must be doing something wrong I'm going to try growing them this season in a frame with environment mesh ?
had thought about growing them in a frame with a poly cover any info on this would be most welcome because I think there a good veg for spring cooking the ones I grew where like footballs the only downside was they had a stronger taste than the normal summer cauli but still good grub I wish we had some
