Title: Chickens and ivy
Post by: ches on June 05, 2019, 10:33
My granddad lost another chicken today. A neighbour recently trimmed his ivy and my granddad is wondering if fudge got hold of some.

Could this have caused fudge to pass away?

I know ivy is poisonous but then so is rhubarb leaves and the chickens love them.

Any advice welcome.

I don't think it's poisonous to chickens, but it's a rather bitter taste so they would probably avoid it anyway.

This says it's poisonous, so better safe than sorry.

Before the neighbour gets the blame, my neighbour was cutting his ivy and trying to catch it before it fell over into my chicken run. I told him to just push it over anyway as the hens will get the insects . He obliged and all 7 of mine are fine.  ???

Bizarre. My grandad is very much not blaming the neighbour. He’s given the chickens full run of the garden so they can get to anything really. He’s working on an enclosed run for them so they are confined to one half of the garden. Easier to control then haha
