Hi all I have a 1 day old chick that keeps pecking the hens ears... there is food and water, both of which the chick is eating/drinking, but it seems to be fascinated with her ears. Once it hung on and poor mama hen couldn't get it off. The hen has given a few pecks back, but I don't want her to get frustrated and hurt the chick. Will this stop or worsen? Or shall I apply some Stoppeck to the hens head?

Have you checked the mother for ear mites or lice?

She is a very healthy hen, no lice, skin or mite issues that I am aware of. I will try to check her over but I will surely get a nasty peck or two from her as she is very protective of her eggs Thanks for the pointer, I will check her ears as best I can without causing her stress.

I managed to get a close look at mama's ears, body & vent, and there are no signs of mite's... and chickpea has also stopped pecking it. I think mama's pecks told it to stop it's wrong behaviour in it's 1st day and now it learnt it's lesson. Thanks.
