Title: Laid a lash.
Post by: Sooz on July 15, 2011, 16:29
I went out this morning and found a 'lash' in the bottom of the coop.
Does this ,mean one of my chooks has come to the end of her laying life?

(By the way, I took the lash out and left in on the grass - the chooks could not get to it....and when I went back to take a good look, it was gone!  Something had snuck it away!!  Yuck!!)

Hello there,
I am not an expert but It may mean that one of your girls has reached the end of her laying career.
Hybrids can lay furiously for the first eighteen months and then reach the end of egg laying around two.  Some trail off and some finish quite abrubtly.
I don't know if hens can lay after a lash - maybe someone with more experience can tell us.  In the meantime good luck and keep us posted.
