poor albumen
« on: May 22, 2012, 19:03 »
I have 3 pure breed and 2 hybrid hens, started laying last November. I clean coop every week, and they free range on 3 acres of farmland, eating greens, bugs, layers pellets and whatever else takes their fancy. I dont store eggs for long, maybe a bout 2 weeks maximum,(they are used up quickly here!) and I store them in a dark cupboard. In the last few weeks, I have noticed a few of my girls laying eggs with very poor egg whites. I have no idea if Im doing anything wrong. Can infection or disease cause this , I must add they do seem very healthy, eating, chirpy, squabbling, the usual.  Any help would be fab, its not much fun eating a wobbly egg...or cooking a wobbly egg for that matter, makes it impossible to flip :/    . miserable!

what is wrong with the whites? are they really thin, or cloudy or what?
Staffies are softer than you think.

Funny you should notice that because I've noticed that the young (2year old) lays eggs with runny white whereas the older one (6year at least) lays good quality eggs with nice rounded yolks and firmer white.
