I cut mine right back last year, following recommendations on the internet, and they all died. I'm going to try and overwinter this year, but this time I won't be trimming them as severely.

I really like the idea of chillies in winter!  :)

A light trim to tidy long shoots is all that they need  ;)

Has anyone tried to over winter sweet peppers ?

Yes, there is a photo in my diary  ;)

I lifted it form the greenhouse border, when the weather turned chilly, trimmed the roots and repotted it. Gave it a prune and kept it on a cool windowledge through the darkest days.

Moved it to a warmer windowledge in the spring and finally moved it into the greenhouse where it was already fruiting well at the beginning of May :)

I overwintered 18 chilli plants , but ony 9 lived to start again this year .

Some varieties are more suitable than others , I've had loads of chillis off them .

I cut all the leaves off , and left  just the stalk about 12 - 15 inches tall , in the front bedroom , by the

window   and just kept the soil damp .

The varieties were aneheim , jalapeno hungarian hot wax and a sweet pepper.

I put them in the greenhouse when the weather warmed up and fruited earlier then from seed .

I will try and overwinter these this year .

I did that, they died.  ::) This year I'm going along the lines of Sunny's advice.  ;)

Yes, the same thing happened to me last year... it didn't work at all... thought it was too good to be true. This Winter I'm going back to a pruned plant, but with a few leaves still on. The leaves talk in a way the stump can't.  That's worked in the past.

I'm going to try to overwinter two jalapenos/anaheims in the same conservatory they've been growing in all summer. Though there is a lot of conflicting information online as to whether to cut them back, how much or whether at all :/

Some say cut them back completely or you reduce their chances when they have to support their leaves. Then there are those who say leave a few leaves so they get some energy. Now there are people here saying leave them as is and they keep cropping

As for the Big Jim - I sowed some of these in February, and they've only just started flowering/setting fruit in the last week or 2 (compared to everything else I sowed at the same time which are now well ahead and some are even starting to ripen) so I'm surprised by the 80 day claim.

Sorry it's actually an 85 day claim. (these are the seeds I bought BTW.......

http://www.amazon.co.uk/CHILLI-PEPPER-NUMEX-BIG-SEEDS/dp/B004C7WPH8/ref=sr_1_1?s=outdoors&ie=UTF8&qid=1377027749&sr=1-1&keywords=CHILLI+PEPPER+-+NUMEX+BIG+JIM+-+15+SEED )

Thanks for all the juicy feedback you lovely ppl. I will persevere with the Big Jim's anyway and report back with any progress.
