incubators??
« on: March 08, 2009, 16:15 »
Now that Zorro has done the do :tongue2: I'm really excited.....Now I know we havn't got much more room at the moment  but.........ducklings sound soooooo sweet and if they be boys well the're not going to crow!  So I need a incubator as I don't have a broody girlie :(
I don't want to pay vast amounts as not sure if this is really the road we can go down should we run out of room  >:(
I've looked on ebay and there are so many sorts!!! whats the best and how much should I be looking to pay?????

Thankyou for all your help x

Oh dear! you are on a slippery slope! :D :D
There is a huge range and you do get what you pay for. I have heard really good reviews of the incubators from Brinsea, particulary the new Octoagon 20 EX advance. I looked at loads at eventually plumped for that one! Have put it on tonight and it does look easy I must say -humidity and temp automatically controlled.
Vember is very experienced as well as Big Jen, I am not sure what they use though.

  Slippery slope indeed

I've only got the diddy RCOM3 hatched me loads of ikle ones last year :D

I've had a problem with the adapter, it burnt out  But the newer version has a bigger one & works well :D

This Incy suits me best as I'd be over run with ikle ones if I had anything bigger
I'm terrible at self discipline when it comes to ikle fluffy babies

You always knew the slippery slope wasn't far behind me....  I'm enjoying this far too much

Hence I don't want a big inci as i'd have to move into the hen coup and they could move in our house.
Its only ducks :tongue2: :tongue2: :tongue2:

Ha ha maybe I should wait a while????? but the pitter patter of duckies is too much.  Is there a ducks annonomus.........My names sam..... I have an addiction.......I need help.....I AM ADDICTED .............To ducks and chickens.....but mainly ducks ......at the moment......

I am not experienced with incies- have used broodies before, they are much easier.
I have bought a second hand Octagon 40 because I was told that bigger incies are more stable in controlling temperature and humidity but I seem to be having a few problems with poor hatching. I think you just have to keep experimenting till you get it exactly right.
I would definately make sure to get one with a turner.

There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

i was a bit sceptical it would work, Sam candled 42 duck eggs last night and all but 2 were fertile, time will tell.

It is a slippery slope!

I got a RCOM 20 which is OK but probably there are better for less but I will be sticking to it for now as I have it. Also got given a RCOM 3 for Christmas last year so if you fancied gining that a go I'm sure we could sort something out.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
