advise needed on pricking out seedlings
« on: April 10, 2013, 09:13 »
I have successfully grown various flowers from seeds.  :D They need potting on now but I do not have a heated greenhouse.   :(  Should I a) pot them into individual pots and keep on the windowsill, or b) pot them into pots and place in my greenhouse as the weather is more stable.  I do have limited windowsill space but I think I could make it work but prefer to put in my greenhouse if possible.

Any thoughts or experiences please?

It all depends on what they are, whether the potted on plants can go out in the greenhouse or have to stay inside a it longer.

I now use method of cel trays and pop two seeds in each. Kill of one that doesn't do well, heat in propagator and away you have nice plants and transplant.
Kind Regards
Bill

Gazinias, targetes, gypsophila, dahalias, chrysanthemum, petunias, tomatoes (I know not exactly a flower!).  Plan to pot them on today.

If you can keep them in a few more days till the weather hopefully warms up a bit.
All except the tomatoes, should then be ok in a cold greenhouse.
Keep an eye on the weather forecasts and if they forecast a frost put some fleece, plastic, net curtains etc over them at night.

Tomatoes like a minimum of 10C day and night before they can go out there - mine will soon start going out during the day and in at night, usually till the 2nd week of May  ::)
