Spring has sprung for my roosters
« on: January 14, 2012, 13:27 »
Despite the frost and chill, my 2 boys are squaring up to each other through the wire.  These 2 are Seramas so knee high to a grasshopper, but that means nothing to these little prize fighters  ::)

Note complete lack of interest by the laydeeees - they had just been out for a run in the garden while I was digging and are too full of worms to care what the boys are up to  :D

Not chicken related but I think this milder spring like weather is certainly having an effect on the male population, I rode out on a gelding today and he certainly had a 'spring' in his step!

My young Splash Orpington cockerel, Gandalf, has just started crowing.  The orps free range with my golden Sabelpoot trio and when he started becoming frisky with one of the poot hens the poot cockerel saw him off.  Given that Gandalf is huge and Mr Poot (no prizes for the original name!) is tiny it was hilarious to watch.  The time has come for the two flocks to be separated me thinks.   ::)
