Being new to this allotment game could someone help me with a basic question.

I've read that some plants like high nitrogen content and some that like a low content.

What happens if you put a "low nitrogen" plant in a high nitrogen soil - will it grow ok?

Depends on the plant; either way, it won't do as well as it would in its 'proper' nitrogen level. Things like carrots and spuds, lower nitrogen likers, will put on lots of useless top growth at the expense of root growth and other such annoying things. Low and high nitrogen lovers aren't a fixed thing, only that plants tend to better prefer their own levels.
