Title: fruit tree

we have a space now in the garden and would like to plant a fruit tree.
when is it best to purchase one? and any good advise as to soil prep?

If it's container grown you can plant one at any time.

Most young trees will benefit from a good tree stake and flexible tree tie for the first few years too.

I think the bulk of fruit trees from the main suppliers are sold as bare root in the winter. The better sites offer planting guides as to size and depth of hole. Remember to plant to the same level as the tree was originally at. You can check this bu looking at the base of the stem near the graft.
