Title: Which Slug Pellets?
Post by: adri123 on June 23, 2014, 18:19
Hi

Fed up of the midnight searching only to find more and more of them...which slug pellets are effective and safe to be used near food we're going to eat?

Thanks for any replies.

Adri

I use the organic ones by Growing Success (blue and white bottle). They are safe for all other wildlife apparently unlike regular pellets. Plus no slime trails and corpses to deal with! You do have to re-apply fairly regularly but I'm sure that applies to the regular pellets too.

As above.
Funnily enough the lack of slime can make you worry the organic pellets are not doing their job. But they do, but I also tend to use a few more than the old in-organic sort, as they aren't so vibrant blue and tend to degrade quicker, at least to the eye. A confidence thing only.
The one thing I have noticed is in my greenhouse in the early Spring this year, the "organic" ones protecting my carrots literally kept disappearing every night, so something must have been nicking them, apart from the slugs. I think it might have been ants. Has anyone else clocked what might spirit them away ?
