Title: engine oil
Post by: loam ranger on March 31, 2009, 20:34
Hi all,  after 3 years I have just got round to getting an old generator running which I inhereted from my late father inlaw, its a mini gen with a villiers 4 stroke engine, does anyone know what oil is used and  will it run on super unleaded fuel? got it running after it has been standing for 4 years,
Cheers
Geoff

Use SAE30 oil in the oil sump. It should be ok to use unleaded fuel, but because of the vintage, I'd also put in an additive too. I can't remember what it's called, but know that Halfords sell it!
The reason that I suggest using it, is because I can't remember for the life of me, whether villiers engines have hardened valve seats or not ( it has been a very long time since I last worked on an engine that old!)
Well done on getting it going though!.

Thanks Graham, I just took the spark plug out and put some fresh fuel in the plug hole, replaced the plug and it fired up after acouple of pulls. seems to run sweet!
