Hi there

We've had chickens for the last few years and have never had any real problems with red mites or lice in the hen house.  Over the last couple of weeks we've had a sudden infestation, even though we always use an appropriate insecticide (powders / spray) when cleaning their house each week.  We can't seem to get rid of them.  Do you have any ideas...and do they just bite chickens?

If you go to the search section at the top of the page and enter Red Mite it will come up with loads of posts identifying how to deal with them. Seems to have been a big problem this year as there have been many recent posts on the subject. Hillfooter gives good advice in the posts and as you will note they are not easy to get rid of.

The little devils will also enjoy eating you given the chance.

I've just had an eglu delivered this morning!  Am so sick of spraying/dusting/worrying about damned red mite - I've decided the only way to eliminate once and for all is to go plastic!
