Hi. I am new to the forum. Can anyone give me some advice please.
I sown some niger seed as greeen manure after reading the benefits from this site, it came up lovely and was planning to leave it until spring before digging in. due to the heavy frost we had the other day, it has gone black, should I leave it , dig it out or dig it in now.

When you say it's gone black, do you mean it's now died?

HI Yorkie, thanks for looking into this for me, the tops went black due to the cold snap we had in Warrington Cheshire, now all the growth is no longer stud up, but lay down looks dead to me, perhaps I should leave it to decay . I have also put comfry leave on my other plot which are decaying down.

Ah right, yes then I certainly wouldn't dig it out. If you're still doing winter digging and the soil's not too wet, you could dig it in - or could just leave it on top for the worms etc. to do their job over winter.
