Direct Plants,anyone used them?
« on: February 13, 2012, 17:29 »
I'm thinking about buying a cherry tree, plum tree and a gooseberry bush from them.
I just wanted to know if they are ok before I part with the cash.
(They are on Ebay)
It's better to burn out than to fade away !!     ;)

Not sure about them but make sure you check the rootstock.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

No, I haven't used those suppliers. However, I did recently buy a new plum tree from Rougham Hall Nurseries (www.perennials-of-distinction.co.uk). It was cheaper than the same tree from ebay suppliers and they have a very good range of gooseberries and other fruit too. It was beautifully packaged and delivered and a very nice healthy looking little tree.

The cherry is on Colt rootstock, would this be ok?

http://apps.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/Profile.aspx?PID=359 says it's semi-vigorous: 6m at maturity.  I'd go for a smaller one - takes up less space and is easier to net.
