Title: fern trees
Post by: rubixs on April 20, 2009, 01:15
i have about 30/40 foot fern tree in my back garden it blocks the sunlight out around 11 o'clock till about 2 o'clock.
am i right in thinking these kind of trees are not protected and i can get a tree surgeon in to take it down.
i'm also a council tennant so would i need to seek their permission.

also brambles i've cut well over 100's of these right down to the ground and new shoots are starting to form.
so with out digging them all out by the roots is there a good strong weed killer i can use on the fresh sprouts to kill them off completely.

This looks quite like a leylandii tree and your are rigth that it would not have any kind of protection order on it. Technically you should ask your landlord about removing it, but IMHO I would do this asap (they ar not likely to say no if you are getting it removed professionally) before it grows into such a beast you never see the light of day again..

Hope that helps.... these are real thugs if not well controlled from birth and all the time afterwards too  ::)
