Is it just my girlies?
« on: June 07, 2009, 16:24 »
My 3 ex-batts are filthy!  They have been out in the pooring rain today and one thought it would be a good idea to have a dust bath (or is that a mud bath!)  Why do they not go in the house for shelter?  Should I put them in when it rains hard or just leave them to it?  They are able to shelter under their house but don't seem to do that either.

What do yours do?

Hi nickchick, as they are exbatts they are probably making the most of seeing the sky, it's stopped raining here at Donington so assuming it's the same where you are they will soon dry out  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.

Some birds will refuse to go into the coop and only go to lay and roost.  I had to create a rain shelter/summer house for mine.  I would suggest you do the same.

I have just put some plastic on top of my hen run to keep the ground from turning into a swamp. I am going to get some pvc sheets for the winter to keep the worst off at one end. They look miserable getting soaked but dont bother going in unless its mega windy and then really only to lay......

my girls go under the trailer when it rains, but also wander about in it too, they often look really bedraggled but don't seem to mind.  Once it stops they have a shake and a preen and get back to looking good.  It's sunny near Doncaster!
