Very windy here and cold too but not as much rain as hoped for. 9mm according to the gauge but I don't think it's working well.

It's been heavy rain overnights and heavy showers in the days for the past three days. Hail in June!!!!!

Dry and sunny this morning but we had a reasonable amount of rain in the night. Could do with more but better than nothing

3mm looks like about it for today - a bit less than most days since the warm spell abruptly ended (probably had around 18mm since then - not enough, but a lot better than nothing.)

If anyone is wondering how much rain is enough to be called 'useful', it obviously depends on your soil type:

Assuming no run-off, 1" (25.4mm) of rain will only penetrate 1-2" on the heaviest clay soils, up to 15" on the sandiest, and somewhere in between for loamy soils.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Apart from a few spits and spots, we've had nothing.  I tried to plant some squash out today and the ground is solid.  Even digging down about four inches there is no sign of moisture.  Guess that's our water bill going up  then! :D

Alternating between dark and light grey sky and quite breezy from the North, so a chilly 14C.

Nuisance weather which feels like the temperature has regressed to October, lots of cloud, but insignificant rain, not enough even to notice it has rained on the plot. Forecast is for a decent rainfall all day tomorrow, but they forecast that for last Wednesday and next to nothing fell, so we shall see.
