Where can I buy softwood shavings from, and how much should I expect too pay?

You can buy softwood shavings (please get dust extracted!  much nicer to work with and for your chooks) at a large pet shop, or more specifically an equestrian supply shop.  anything which is suitable as horse bedding will be suitable for your chooks.

I don't know how much they are in the UK, but I can pay from 8.90€ at the feed store to 19.90€ at a pet shop for a 240L / 24kg bale

I buy mine from the place where they are made and I pay £5.50 per packaged bale.  These are the dust free shavings used for horses.  They are the same price or about 50p more from some farm shops.
