vivaldi potatoes
« on: July 15, 2011, 16:28 »
My first year growing spuds so I have lots to learn.

I am growing vivaldi, a second early. I am told that it can be harvested normally when the leaves start to die back or harvested early for high yields of baby potatoes. I guess that this would be after flowering??

Has anyone experimented harvesting them early? Do they taste a lot better.

After I have finished my lady C's which will be soon (poor yield although taste fantastic) I am going to be lusting after some more new spuds but dont want to waste my crop.

Any one any thoughts?

How long ago did you plant them?  If you want them as baby potatoes, you could try having a rummage (furtle) around the base of one to see what's there.

If you want them as maincrop then wait until the foliage has died.

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
