Wanting another hen.....any recommendations

Hi Cammi, it does say in the advert that the "copper black" is a hybrid of the Marans - this drastically reduces the chances of a dark brown egg, unfortunately.

Marans are very carefully bred to select only the darkest egg layers (or should be!) as the colour of the eggs is one of the things a judge looks at when showing them (at least in France!)

If you want a dark brown egg layer, you really need to look for a pure bred Marans, or even Barnvelder or Welsummer - but I doubt you'd get one for £7.00!

yeah fenellas chooks are all on sale at the moment.  I knew she was a Hybrid didn't buy her thinking she was a pure maran, but was thinking i should get a darker egg.
