Title: So, I've been given a watermelon plant....
Post by: fibilou on July 18, 2011, 21:22
It was in a titchy pot and very dry but still alive and kicking with several flowers on but the leaves were very dehydrated adn the plant was quite floppy. I have grown melons successfully before (have a galia melon in this year) but not watermelon.

I potted it out into a large pot full of a high-manure mix of manure/topsoil and compost and have wrapped it round a wigwam of canes. The pot is in a deep hydroponics tray in the greenhouse; I've given it a feed with some tomato feed today and after a few hours it was starting to pick up

Any tips gratefully received, it's in a greenhouse with physalis, a galia melon, a grape vine and some cherry tomatoes

If you keep it warm and well fed it should do just fine.

My brother has four this year and they are just beginning to grow small melons  :D
