I really, really mustn't buy any more cookbooks.

I have had to have a cull recently as I was heading up to 500.

ANd I have been soooo good recently... I looked at all the special Christmas cookery magazines and haven't bought one of them ::) ::) YET

How MANY Mrs Ball  -  500.  Thas some impressive library.

I know we can all get every receipe under the tinternet but there's nothing like the feelingof flicking through the pages of a well worn cookbook.

And also writing comments on the recipes, additions, ones that go wrong etc.

I am a recovering addict  But in my defence, I don't smoke, drink to excess and spend large amounts of money on myself generally. And I do get the use out of them

I now reserve interesting cookbooks at the library, test them and decide weather the book will make a really useful addition to the collection.

I have culled, given away a lot of cook books lately to make room in the book cupboards.  ;)

Trouble is there is just one more new cook book I have spotted........

I've got that book. It's really excellent if you just want basic guidelines for a veg you've never cooked before, and it's also excellent if you want a load of good suggestions for different ways to cook them. Until I looked in that book, it had never occurred to me to try braising courgettes, but now I really like them cooked that way. Also has good basic recipes for pickles and stuff.

I can't imagine having 500 cookbooks even though I love to cook. I thought having around 50 was plenty  :D

I believe it is Anton Mosiman who has a cookerybook library that runs into 1000s.

We had book cupboards built under a very large space under the stairs and I am getting much better at limiting my collection. Some cook books and recipes go out of date too.

Our book club read a self help book about decluttering and despite being really good about decluttering found it difficult to ditch the cook books. Have got better after reading the book.

Well they are in the loft waiting to go to a car boot sale ::)

Glad you are enjoying your new cook book Chrissie. I find a new cook book gives you inspiration. :)

Don't be disheartened ;)

I may have a large cook book library but I have had my share of humdinging diasters.

The good thing about cookery mishaps is they get eaten and disappear. They don't stick around to haunt you for ever.

And remember not all cookbooks are good cookbooks. Some recipes just don't work.

You learn more by failures than you do with your successes.

just trying to clear some books out my self only have about 20 found about 3 I wanted to part with. I love the idea of cooking different things but usually end up with the same few meals. How do you motivate yourself to try new dishes do you have one day a week?

That's how a lot of folk do it - dedicate one day a week to try something totally different. Pick a day you know you'll have time to experiment and alter if necessary. Choose the recipe beforehand and have needed ingredients on hand so you can't back out saying 'I haven't got such-and-such, can't make it.'

What a good idea. I have my culled books in the loft at the moment as I am too busy to do anything about them.

Actually I would be just happy to find them a good home.
They are scrawled with notes.
