Just sat watching chickens!
« on: October 08, 2016, 09:43 »
I've always spent a lot of time in the run with the girls, I have my own perch (bench) in there and it's one of my fav seats in the garden.
However I've recently managed to fence off part of the garden so they can come out and freerange but not wander too far. They have a good area of lawn, plus a gravelled area with tough mature chicken proof shrubs. Lots to occupy them, but very little they can destroy.
I knew this arrangement would add quality to their lives which is why I did it. But what I hadn't appreciated was just how much more it would add to the quality of mine. :)
Another bench has been positioned and I spent the whole of yesterday afternoon just sitting there in the sun, watching, enjoying, laughing at their antics. I was so content. It really was one of those glad to be alive moments.
Just sat watching chickens! Bliss!
Thought I'd share!

That's sounds idyllic, who needs millions when you can be at peace in your own piece of paradise.😊

Wholeheartedly agree with you there Flowerpower.  Nothing better,  they are so entertaining to watch, even if they are just pootling around pecking at stuff.

The thing i like is if you sit out in the garden when they are free ranging after they have done what hens do they will come and sit with you and preen or sunbathe , makes you part of the flock.

Be warned the chicken equivalent of a 'Gold Medal' is managing to steal a sandwich off you !

It will be paraded up and down the garden several times before being eaten ! :)

:D. Daren't risk eating within range!  Even a cuppa draws interest.
I have noticed they all come to the side of my bench for a preening session and a snooze before starring all over again on the chicken stuff!

The girls come and sit and preen and Foggy is a bit aloof and keeps his distance, however Alphie is a complete ratbag.  He jumps onto the arm of the bench and crows right in your ear.  He's suprisingly loud for someone who is knee high to a grasshopper as well  ::)
