Title: Sweetcorn
Post by: kezlou on June 17, 2008, 20:45
Hello all, i was wondering if it was too late to sow sweetcorn from seed?
Just got my new plot and was hoping to sow some in the next two weeks.

Planning on doing a three sisters patch, my squashes are growing and should be able to plant them out in about two weeks as well as the beans.

Thanks for looking,

Kerry

You lucky devil out in sun so jealous of you now Kenny!!! It's mildly hot here but as you know with boro we've our own special climate lol
Hows it going down under?

I know this sounds daft, well positively naive, did not think you could grow beetroot there because its too hot.

Sounds like me and you are planting the same things, hopefully everything will work and i'll plenty of crop like you have!

Thanks everyone for the advice i really appreciate, can't wait to go over tomorrow  :D

I sowed sweetcorn seeds the weekend before last (Saturday 7th), purely on the off-chance that something might happen (well it's my first year growing anything so everything's on the off-chance at the moment!  :D )

I sowed 20 seeds, of which 19 have germinated and are now between 2 and 6 inches high. Have started putting them out in the mini greenhouse during the day, will carry on doing so for about a week and plant them out on the plot next week sometime.

So I reckon give it a go...you never know!

Kerry in all honesty I wouldn't bother with the 3 sisters lark as it isn't suited that well to our climate.
