Title: stupid delivery driver
Post by: al78 on December 01, 2020, 09:44
I've just had a delivery this morning. The van parked outside my house, the driver glanced at me through my lounge window, took the package through the side gate to the back garden, left it next to the French doors (in the most awkward place right next to the door which opens outward), filled in a "sorry we missed you" note, and posted it through the letter box. It would have beeen at least three times faster and ten times less effort to ring the front doorbell and either hand it to me, or (if he is concerned about COVID) leave it outside the front door. Why?!

We have some wonderful delivery drivers.  Some drop and run and some have time for a few pleasantries.

They are under huge time pressures now with COVID and the approaching Christmas festivities.  I have done all my Christmas shopping on line and groceries on click and collect.

I thank all of these “Essential” workers.  An occasional little error on their part is only human.

If they are under huge time pressure why deliver to me in a way that is far less time efficient? I'm not criticising all delivery drivers, I'm questioning the actions of one.

I did say:

we have odds one side and evens the other.
no number 13 and goes 19 then 25, who has no number on the house. Google puts address behind my neighbour. Couriers normally chuck over gate when they eventually sus it.

We ordered a couple of gifts for a Daughter from a new, young online company, which had in fact, advertised in a magazine. The cost was around £45.00, and their confirmation etc., was pretty good!

Trouble was, that the delivery guys (national), left it next door, and even took a pic of the front door! It rained all night and while checking yet another update message from the seller, and wondering what had gone wrong, I popped next door (she was away), and there was our box, sopping wet on her doorstep!

Being a bit annoyed, I contacted the seller and was a little cross, not overly, but a bit fed up, because the carrier has been here lots of times and we have two house signs up including one on the gate, but satnav being what it is, they certainly got it very wrong. The gifts inside were a bit damp, but they eventually dried fine... The boxes were a soggy writeoff.

Anyway, the seller immediately got back to me, asked for pictures, offered me a refund/reorder, sent apologies and were very sorry, and we just melted because they were so upset, and anyway, the gifts dried perfectly (wooden kit, ornamental stuff). So we got back to them and explained that all was OK! They were really relieved, and I left it to them to sort out the carrier, telling them to use the pics as they wanted, maybe even get some dosh back - who knows!

Feedback from them was also fabulous, they got a great writeup from us and everyone was happy about the outcome!

So there's a nice story to tell the kids!

(And if anyone wants the name of the seller, just PM me, because they did everything they could and were so good about it)!
