Polycarbonate doesn't shatter, but can be scratched over time, glass can be broken quite easily.

You have to make your own decision. We sell loads of polycarb panels to people who are sick of having their glass smashed - but decent polycarbonate is dearer than glass.

If you plan to sit in it during the rain, glass is much quieter.  For an allotment setting or where vandalism is likely, then brucesgirl is spot on.

Sorry if this is a silly question....

Is polycarbonate see through?

I've got a picture in my head of some double thickness ridged plastic stuff that you see in some greenhouses that lets light in but you can't actually see through.

Am I thinking of the wrong stuff?

No my polycarb is as clear as the glass.  it costs a little more, but if you consider how much you could pay to replace glass over the years the cost works out much more cost effective.

I've heard that the polycarb could mist up over time (ie 8 years+) (like bus stops do) but the greenhouse stuff is better quality than the bus stop stuff but I'd still buy the 4mm stuff over glass with all of the vandalism that goes on nowerdays.

Thanks Suzi.....

I've been checking out some greenhouse sites and some seem to show the same greenhouse picture for each style of glass whereas others show the plastic ridged looking stuff that you can't see through. :?

I ws going round in circles..... it doesn't take much to confuse me!!!!!

The ridged stuff is double- or triple- walled, and was designed for conservatory roofs. The construction of it makes it very strong.

Polycarbonate has improved a lot since it first came along, and there are all sorts of qualities according to which manufacturer makes it.

Inch for inch though, it is more expensive than glass as the cost of it rises per sheet every few months.

That's a great site!!!

I just found a Palram with poly glass in green (with base) for £304 for an 8x6 which is the same price as the 6x6 version of the same model I found on another site (and I thought that was a good price!!)

You're a star SnooziSuzi!!!!  :D

glad to have been of help!  :D

Before you make your final decision, though, try these guys  I've bought both of my sheds and my greenhouse from here, again, no troubles!

EDIT:  mind you, shedstore have different pricing options depending on whether you need a base, polycarb etc so if you do look at their site remember to check everything thouroughly

Well, just checked their prices against what I buy in at trade and they are very fair - about what I would charge my customers.
