Whitecurrants
« on: August 20, 2008, 19:23 »
I have been to investigate my allotment a little more this afternoon and have stumbled across a big redcurrant bush and a small white currant bush.

I am fine with the redcurrants as I know that I can make jam with them or (as I have done this time) throw them into my rumtopf jar.

But I had never even heard of white currants.  What do they taste like (I didnt try any as they looked abit past it) and what can I do with them?
I always find that work gets in the way of life.

They taste like redcurrants they just look anaemic and I use them as redcurrants or mix them in with other currants.

treat them the same as redcurrants and the taste is almost identical.

useful in summer puddings;  james, curds/jellies (optional as to squeezing to remove pips);  icecreams;  flavoured gins.

generally will go red so result is hard to differentiate from redcurrants.
