Re-using sprayers after using weed killer
« on: August 10, 2013, 18:32 »
Hey guys, i have just bought some weed killer and a sprayer.
The sprayer did not cost a lot but i wanted to know if it is safe to re-use if i  wash it thoroughly a few times?

The advice is to keep a sprayer/can for each chemical/feed etc. However, I just rinse out VERY thoroughly. I have never had a problem. You pays your money and you takes your choice, I suppose. :)

I never chance it either.  As they are so cheap, I have one for weedkiller, one for jeyes and one for poultryshield for the chickens house.

I'd keep that sprayer separate just for that purpose too.

It turns out the sprayer went faulty after i used it, so i will be swapping it for a new one.
My neighbor also gave me his more heavy duty sprayer so i haveone for other purposes too.

Thanks for the help guys and gals, i really appreciate it!
How long would the Resolve branded weed killer take to start having effect?
One of my neighbors says resolve might not be strong enough for my perennials, but suggested iwait a week and spray again to make sure. What do you guys think?

It might even take two to three weeks to show the effects of it working.

What are the signs of it working? are they obvious, or very subtle?

I use mine for everything from spraying the roses to weedkilling the paths, but it only gets used about 4 or 5 times a year.
I'd probably get a second one if I needed to use one more often, but I've never had any problems using it for different chemicals - just make sure you pump clean water through the spray mechanism as well as washing out the container.

Mine's a Hozelock 1.25L hand sprayer - if you fill it with lime-free fine gravel up to the 0.25L mark it makes it much easier to make up 1.0L of spray by topping up to the 1.25L mark. The improved agitation helps to dissolve some of the less soluble powders, and you avoid that annoying spluttering as the pick-up tube fails to reach the last few mls of what is often quite an expensive treatment. (Don't use sand instead, it might block the filter, and of course you need to be even more vigilant about washing after use.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Resolva generally contains diquat as well as glyphosate, so it should show preliminary results within a few days.  But as others have said, for it to be fully effective will take a couple of weeks.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
