Homemade heated propagator

I have a large clear plastic box with lid and an old shaving light from the bathroom.

Would it work if I rigged it up as a heated propagator and put in the garage?

Not sure about this one - you need to work out whether the wattage of the bulb is enough (or too much) to produce the desired warmth given that there would presumably be no thermostat, and I'd be a bit concerned about putting a mains powered light fitting underneath a box which may well drip water onto it.

A garage might not be the best place to house a propagator - most garages aren't very well lit and shoots need maximum possible daylight as soon as they appear.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Thanks. I'd fix the light to the top somehow and as you say there would be no thermostat. I think you're right about the light, there's very little. Will have a ponder.

The light fitting will be fine you'll need a specific growlight tube though and a heat mat for the bottom of the propagator. Adding a thermostat is not difficult just a case of sourcing the one you want then wiring in between the supply and load side of the heat mat.

I think Didiaskew has mentioned the critical factor, the type of light required by plants is not the same as that produced by a  domestic light fitting. You will need the wavelength produced by Growlights for optimal results.
