Getting labels off jam jars

Normally these come off after a good soak in hot water, but some adhesives on some jars are not walter soluble.

I got really fed up with having to use white spirit because of the smell.

Turns out WD-40 is excellent for this.

And arthritis, allegedly.

I use the 3m sticky stuff remover and you only need a tiny bit

Kim and Aggie use mayonnaise, or anything oil based works apparently.

The 3m stuff is based on some kind of fruit oil so I dare say you could make it with stuff out the pantry 
Like you say Scribbler white spirit and food is not a happy combo. WD40 at least smells a bit better    Once I've got the cra* off I stick them in the dishwasher

I pour boiling water into the jar - not onto the label and wait for it to melt the glue and just pull the label off  , anything left can be wiped off with a paper towel. Just don't get the label itself wet.

I always chuck them in the dishwasher and they come out spotless and completely label and glue free.

Brasso rubbed on the outside a tiny amount removes any label residue.

I do then give them a boil wash to remove any trace left 

I use Mr Sheen seems to work on all label glue types.
