Title: Building a compost heap
Post by: RJR_38 on April 11, 2013, 19:57
I am building a compost heap at the back of my plot. I am using 4 wooden corner stakes, a double wall of chicken mesh filled with newspaper as suggested by another gardening website. One question I do have is about the base of the heap. I have dug this area of then plot out and removed brambles and nettles but based on my experience of clearing the rest of the plot, some of the nettles are bound to return. Am I ok to put the composting materials straight on to the soil or should I put weed membrane down first?

Also, has anyone got any good tips for making a successful heap?
