Title: Tomatoes and potatoes better together or apart?
Post by: fekq on March 23, 2010, 12:44
think i may have allowed too much space for my spuds this year, so wondered about planting a couple of tomatoes in the spare end. would this work (similar family) or cause problems (similar problems)?!

do get tom blight at the lottie, whereas the potatos last year seemed not to succumb. wouldn't like to increase the risk of potato blight!

thanks!
Fiona

... do you keep toms and pots as far apart as possible to avoid transfer of diseases, or closer together to reduce the area of spread should it start to go down anyway ... I don't think there is any real answer to that as both have their merits and up to individuals.

Personally I keep my outdoor toms & potatoes as far apart as possible (er ... on completely different plots ) and hedge my bets that way  :D
