Problem with my plum tree.
« on: June 06, 2019, 08:21 »
Hi all, I have a good sized yellow plum tree on my plot. In 2018 it produced a load of fruit, so much it was bending the branches. So I decided to prune some of the branches this year, I think I did it about February.

I don't know what's happened but most of the new leaves have shrivelled to nothing and any tiny fruit developing are malformed. Have I killed it? Thanks all.

First of all you should always prune mid summer when the sap is runnning, they can be very delicate.

I suspect that they have disease running through them now I am afraid to say
Punk isn't dead...it's underground where it belongs. If it comes to the surface it's no longer punk...it's Green Day!

Oh I see, summer it is then. I did kind of suspect a disease, do you think it will recover? Many thanks.

My own experience is they dont, however time will tell, I am no expert on them.
I have a larg plum tree that to be honest I was pretty scared about pruning as I heard they are funny, I spoke to a few people in the know at garden centres etc and of course a young man who used to be on here, our Jamie and everyone said mid-summer.
From I have seen around our site, once they go they go.

Any one else on here with more experience that can help?
